Hotels in Mumbai
On this page
In Mumbai, where you stay matters more than the room, because traffic can turn a short distance into a long ride. Most visitors do best in South Mumbai for sightseeing or Bandra for food and nightlife. Rooms tend to be small for the price. In November 2026, hotel listings started from about US$31 a night, though central, well-reviewed rooms usually cost well above that.
Where to stay
Colaba. The classic first-timer's base, with the Gateway of India, street shopping and restaurants all within walking distance. It has everything from basic guesthouses to grand heritage hotels, but the budget places can be dated, so read recent reviews closely.
Fort and Kala Ghoda. Just north of Colaba, with colonial architecture, galleries and easy access to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. It's quieter at night than Colaba and handy if you'll be using trains or the metro.
Marine Drive and Churchgate. Choose this for evening walks along the sea and the Western Line at Churchgate. Sea-view rooms cost noticeably more, so check whether yours actually faces the water.

Bandra West. Mumbai's most enjoyable base for cafés, bars and boutiques. It's a good choice for a second visit, or if you care more about evenings out than landmarks. South Mumbai's sights are a train or taxi ride away.

Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). A business district with modern chain hotels and a metro station. It suits work trips better than sightseeing, and it can feel empty on weekends.
Juhu. Beachside hotels close to the film-industry neighbourhoods, popular with domestic visitors. It's relaxed, but far from South Mumbai and without a Western Line station of its own.
Andheri and Sahar, near the airport. Sensible for one night before an early flight or after a late arrival. For a longer stay, you'd spend too much of each day on the road.

How to choose
Stay close to your plans. If you're here for two or three days of sightseeing, Colaba or Fort will save you hours. Don't pick a cheaper hotel in the suburbs without counting the taxi rides back and forth.
Look at the metro and train lines. The underground Aqua Line runs from Cuffe Parade through Churchgate, BKC and both main airport terminals, and it has made a car-free stay more realistic. Check which station is nearest before you book.
Check your airport and terminal. Terminals 1 and 2 are on separate sites, and some flights now use the newer Navi Mumbai airport, which is much farther from these areas. An airport hotel only helps if it's near the right one.
What to expect
Rooms. Older buildings can mean small rooms, thin walls and few windows. Check recent guest photos, and ask for a room away from the road if you sleep lightly.
The essentials. Confirm air conditioning, hot water and Wi-Fi, especially at budget hotels. Bring your passport to check-in, as hotels will ask for it.
The final price. Check whether the rate includes taxes and breakfast, since the total can be higher than the headline price.
When to book. Book early for the cooler months from November to February, for New Year and for Ganesh Chaturthi. During the June to September monsoon, rates can be softer, but ask whether the street floods in heavy rain.
