Hotels in Taipei

On this page

Taipei's metro is so good that almost anywhere near a station works, so choose by the mood of the neighbourhood. Rooms can be small and older, even at decent prices. In November 2026, hotel listings started from about US$41 a night, with well-located rooms usually costing more on weekends and holidays.

Where to stay

Taipei Main Station. The most practical base, with the airport MRT, high-speed rail, regular trains and two metro lines. It suits short stays and day trips. The area is busy and more functional than charming, but you'll save time on every journey.

Ximending. Young and lively, with shops, snacks and plenty of budget hotels. It's easy for first-timers and close to Longshan Temple. Evenings are noisy, so ask for a room away from the main pedestrian streets.

Zhongshan and Dadaocheng. Stylish cafés and boutiques around Zhongshan station, with old streets and Ningxia Night Market a short walk west. It has a good choice of mid-range and design hotels, and it's probably the best all-round area for most travellers.

Da'an. Leafy residential streets, Yongkang Street's famous food and Da'an Forest Park. It's calm and pleasant, and it suits a longer stay, although there are fewer big hotels and prices can be higher.

Xinyi. Modern towers, malls, nightlife and Taipei 101, with many of the city's top-end hotels. It's great for views and shopping, but less characterful and farther from older neighbourhoods.

Beitou. Hot-spring hotels in the north of the city, some with private baths in the room. It's a relaxing add-on for a night or two, but it's a long MRT ride from most sights.

How to choose

Check the walk to the MRT. Five minutes on the map can feel longer with luggage or in heavy rain. Check the exit too, as big stations have many.

Plan your airport trip. Most international flights use Taoyuan, and the airport MRT reaches Main Station in about 35 to 50 minutes. Songshan Airport is right in the city, so it's easy from Zhongshan or Xinyi.

Split your stay for hot springs. If you'd like a soak, spend your last night in Beitou instead of crossing town for a day visit.

What to expect

Rooms. Budget hotels may have small rooms and no windows, so read the listing carefully. Hostels and capsule stays are common around Main Station and Ximending.

Humidity. Older buildings can feel damp in winter and in the rainy months. Recent guest reviews are the best guide, and a dehumidifier in the room is a good sign.

When to book. Rates rise on weekends, during Lunar New Year and around New Year's Eve, when Xinyi hotels with views of the Taipei 101 fireworks fill up very early.
