Hotels in Singapore

On this page

Singapore is compact and its MRT is excellent, so nearly any central hotel works. The bigger issue is price, as rooms here cost more than almost anywhere in the region. In November 2026, listings started from about US$55 a night, mostly for small rooms and capsule-style stays, while well-located hotels usually cost a good deal more.

Where to stay

Marina Bay. Home to the skyline views, Gardens by the Bay and luxury towers. It's the most striking place to stay but also the most expensive, and it can feel quiet away from the malls at night.

Orchard Road. Malls, department stores and big hotels, with a good choice for families. It's well connected by MRT, though it has less local character than other areas.

Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar. Heritage shophouses, hawker centres and boutique hotels. This is a great all-rounder for first-timers, with easy MRT access and excellent food, though some rooms are small.

Bugis and Kampong Glam. Colourful streets around Sultan Mosque, independent shops and good-value hotels. It's central, walkable and well priced by Singapore standards.

Little India. Budget hotels and guesthouses among temples, spice shops and curry restaurants. It's lively and often the cheapest central option, although it gets crowded on Sunday evenings.

Clarke Quay and Robertson Quay. Riverside restaurants and nightlife. Robertson Quay is calmer and popular for longer stays, while Clarke Quay can be noisy at night.

Sentosa. Beach resorts, theme parks and family-friendly hotels, on its own island. It's great for a resort break, but it adds travel time if you want to explore the city.

How to choose

Stay near an MRT station. It's hot and humid, so a short walk matters. The Downtown and East-West lines are especially useful.

Check for extra charges. Prices are often shown before 10% service charge and 9% GST. Look at the final total, as it can add almost 20%.

Plan your airport trip. Changi is about 30 to 45 minutes from the centre by MRT or taxi. If you have an early flight or a long layover, Jewel and the airport hotels are convenient.

What to expect

Small rooms. Standard rooms can be tight, and some budget rooms have no window. Read the description carefully if you're sensitive to that.

Pools. A pool is a real plus in this climate, but many are small, so check recent photos.

When to book. Rates climb during the Formula 1 race, usually in the second half of the year, major concerts and Chinese New Year, when some shops also close. Weekday rates can be higher in business areas, while weekends can be cheaper there.
