Hotels in Jakarta

Jakarta's traffic is its biggest challenge, so stay close to where you need to be, and ideally near an MRT station. Central Jakarta and Sudirman suit most visitors, and rooms are good value. In November 2026, listings started from about US$15 a night, and international chains often cost much less than in other capitals.
Where to stay
Sudirman and Thamrin. The main business corridor, with big hotels, malls and MRT stations running north to south. It's the most practical choice for a first trip or a work visit, with easy links to the airport train at BNI City.

Menteng. A leafy, older district with parks, restaurants and quieter streets. It's central, pleasant for short walks and a good choice if you'd rather avoid the towers.

Senayan. Home to big malls, the stadium and convention halls, on the MRT line. It works well for events and shopping, and its Car Free Day stretch on Sundays is enjoyable.
Kemang. Popular with expats for cafés, bars and boutique hotels in the south. It has plenty of character, but it's away from the MRT, and getting there at rush hour can be slow.
Kota Tua and Glodok. The old town and Chinatown, close to Dutch-era buildings and street food. It's interesting for a night or two, but it's less polished and a long way from the business districts.
Near Soekarno-Hatta Airport. Useful for one night around an early flight, because traffic to the airport can take well over an hour.

How to choose
Stay near your meetings. Crossing the city at rush hour can take far longer than the distance suggests. If you have plans in one area, sleep nearby.
Use the rail lines. The MRT runs along Sudirman, and the TransJakarta bus lanes avoid some traffic. The airport train connects BNI City with the terminals, so it's useful for avoiding toll-road jams.
Choose walking routes carefully. Pavements have improved around Sudirman and Thamrin, but elsewhere they can be uneven, so ride-hailing is normal even for short trips.
What to expect
Value. Big business hotels with pools and breakfast are often affordable, especially on weekends, when business demand falls.
Flooding and rain. Heavy rain, usually from about December to February, can flood some roads and slow traffic further. Check your hotel's area before you book.
Taxes and service. Prices may be shown before tax and service, so compare final totals. Ask whether breakfast is included.
When to book. Lebaran brings big changes: the city empties out, rates can fall and some restaurants close, while the weeks around big conventions and concerts can be busier.
